Ancient history

What are two main vegetation zones in both ancient Egypt and the Middle East?

1. Desert: Both ancient Egypt and the Middle East are characterized by extensive desert regions. In Egypt, the large and well-known Sahara desert dominates majority of the country. The Middle Eastern desert regions include vast stretches of the Arabian Desert, Syrian desert, and more. These zones receive scanty rainfall and feature barren landscapes with scarce plant life, consisting mainly of desert shrubs, grasses, and cacti adapted to the arid conditions.

2. Mediterranean/Temperate: Although deserts dominate much of ancient Egypt and the Middle East, certain areas exhibit a Mediterranean or temperate climate. These regions are mostly located along the northern coast of Egypt, parts of the Levant, Turkey, and some areas of Iran. The Mediterranean climate receives more rainfall compared to the desert, so the vegetation is more lush and diverse. Typical flora includes olive trees, citrus fruits, Cypress trees, and a variety of Mediterranean shrubs and flowers.
