Where the surname Powers come from?

The surname Powers has multiple possible origins:

1. English: habitational name from Powers in County Waterford, Ireland, or Powis Castle in Wales, from Welsh pawys "territory, land".

2. Irish: from the Gaelic O'Faghartaigh sept of County Galway, in Irish "descendant of Faghartach", from fágharta "venerated".

3. Scottish: variant of Peirs (see Peers).
