The Congress Working Committee met on 3 June 1947 in which the Mountbatten plan was accepted. In the meeting, it was described as a temporary solution and it was hoped that when the storm of hatred subsides, India's problems will be looked at with the right perspective and then this false theory of two nation will be rejected by everyone.

This decision of the Congress Working Committee landed the Khanbandhu and Khudai Khidmatgars of the North-West Frontier Province, who were equally supporting the Congress. When Gandhiji also supported Mountbatten's plan in the working committee meeting, that is, the plan of partition of the country, the marginal Gandhi Abdul Ghaffar Khan was speechless.
Abdul Ghaffar was surprised to see that Khan was surprised that the leaders of the North-West Frontier region were not even asked before accepting the partition. Opposing the partition of the country, he said that- 'If the Congress now throws the Khudai Khidmatgars in front of the wolves, then the Frontier Pradesh will consider it an act of treachery.
Announcement on Radio
On June 3, 1947, at seven o'clock in the evening, the Viceroy and the Indian leaders announced the acceptance of the Mountbatten plan and the independence of India by the British as two new countries soon.
The Viceroy said that it was not possible to reach an agreement between the Congress and the Muslim League on any such plan so that the country could remain one. Therefore, with independence, on the basis of population, the country will be divided as Hindustan and Pakistan.
The Provincial and District-wise parts of Pakistan were numbered in the Viceroy's Declaration. It was also clarified that referendums within the Legislative Assembly at the provincial and national level 'simple majority' How will the division be done in favor and against. To avoid delay, parts of different provinces will have to do this work independently. The existing Constituent Assembly and the new Constituent Assembly will do the work of framing the Constitution. These organizations will be free to make their own rules.
The messages of Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Baldev Singh and Muhammad Ali Jinnah were broadcast after the message of Viceroy Mountbatten. At the end of his speech, Nehru uttered the slogan given by Subhash Chandra Bose - 'Jaihind.' Whereas Jinnah gave his speech 'Pakistan Zindabad' Ended by saying.
Jawaharlal Nehru welcomed the Viceroy's announcement and appealed to the countrymen to accept this plan peacefully. Nehru said- 'We are not getting India's independence by force or coercion. Even if the country is partitioned, after a few days both the parts will be united again and then the foundation of Akhand Bharat will become stronger.'
Jinnah said in his speech- 'It is a matter for us to think that the plan which the British government is putting forward, we should accept it as a compromise - the last deal.'
Sikh leader Baldev Singh said- 'This was not a deal, it was the last deal. Not everyone is happy with this. Sikhs don't even have it. Still it is worth living, we must accept it.'
