The last official battle of the Indian Wars is considered to be the Battle of Wounded Knee, which took place on December 29, 1890, near Wounded Knee Creek in South Dakota. The battle resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Lakota Sioux, including women and children, and marked the end of large-scale armed resistance by Native American tribes against the United States government.
Despite the Battle of Wounded Knee being considered the last major conflict, various skirmishes and uprisings continued to occur in different regions of the United States even after 1890. However, the Battle of Wounded Knee is often seen as the symbolic end of the era of conflicts known as the Indian Wars.
