There was no king when the pamphlet Common Sense was written. The pamphlet was published anonymously in January 1776, during the American Revolution, when the thirteen American colonies were fighting for their independence from Great Britain. King George III was the reigning monarch of Great Britain at the time, but the American colonies had declared their independence from him and the British government in July 1776, with the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
