What was the first permanent English settlement?

The first permanent English settlement in North America was Jamestown, founded in 1607. It was located in present-day Virginia and was the first successful English colony in the New World. The colony was established by the Virginia Company of London and was led by Captain John Smith. Jamestown was a difficult place to live, and many of the early settlers died from disease or starvation. However, the colony eventually grew and became a permanent settlement.
