In 148 BC, the Roman Republic defeated the Kingdom of Macedonia in the Third Macedonian War. Afterward, Macedonia was initially divided into four client republics: the First, Second, Third, and Fourth Macedonian Republics. Eventually, the Romans made Macedonia a province of the Roman Empire in 146 BC after the Fourth Macedonian War.
