Who led the slave revolt against plantation in 1831?

A slave, preacher and leader of a rebellion, Turner lived in Southampton County, Virginia. On August 21, 1831, he led a group of slaves in an uprising that resulted in the deaths of approximately 60 white people. The rebellion was ultimately suppressed by the military and local militias. Turner was subsequently captured and executed in November of the same year.
