Who was a former slave and well known abolutionist?

Frederick Douglass was a former slave and is considered one of the most important figures in the abolitionist movement. Born into slavery in Maryland in 1818, Douglass escaped in 1838 and dedicated his life to fighting for the freedom of enslaved people.
