Why did knights wear the chain mail armor like they did?

Knights wore chain mail armor because it provided excellent protection against slashing and piercing attacks. The interlocking metal rings of chain mail absorb and distribute the force of a blow, making it difficult for a weapon to penetrate the armor. Chain mail also provides good flexibility and mobility, allowing knights to move freely in battle.

The construction of chain mail is a time-consuming and labor-intensive process, which made it a relatively expensive form of armor. However, its effectiveness in combat made it a worthwhile investment for knights and other wealthy warriors.

Chain mail was the primary form of armor used by knights in Europe during the Middle Ages. It was eventually replaced by plate armor, which offered even better protection but was more expensive and less flexible.
