Did the roman army ever develop a calvary?

The Roman army did develop a cavalry. The equites were the cavalry of the Roman army. They were recruited from the wealthiest citizens and were a part of the upper social classes. The equites were heavily armed with swords, spears and javelins. They also wore helmets and body armour. The Roman cavalry operated as independent units, and they often played a decisive role in battles. The equites were essential in chasing down and destroying the enemy, as well as in providing support for the infantry.
