Ancient history

What could peasants afford?

* Bread: Bread was the staple food of most peasants. It was made from wheat, barley, or rye flour, and was often mixed with water or milk.

* Vegetables: Peasants grew a variety of vegetables in their gardens, including cabbage, carrots, onions, and turnips. They also ate wild greens and fruits, such as berries and nuts.

* Meat: Meat was a luxury for most peasants, but they might occasionally eat pork, chicken, or fish. They also ate eggs and cheese.

* Drink: Peasants drank water, beer, and wine. Beer was the most common drink, and it was often made at home. Wine was more expensive, and it was usually reserved for special occasions.
