What happened to Tenochtitlan after it fell Cortes?

Tenochtitlan was the capital city of the Aztec Empire, located on the site of modern-day Mexico City. The city was founded in 1325 and grew to be one of the largest and most powerful cities in the pre-Columbian Americas. In 1521, Tenochtitlan was besieged and conquered by Spanish forces led by Hernán Cortés. The conquest of Tenochtitlan marked the beginning of the Spanish colonial period in Mexico.

After it was conquered, Tenochtitlan was largely destroyed by the Spanish. The Aztecs were forced to abandon the city, and the Spanish built a new city on the ruins of the old one. The new city, called Mexico City, became the capital of the Spanish colony of New Spain.

The conquest of Tenochtitlan had a devastating impact on the Aztec Empire. The empire was quickly defeated by the Spanish, and the Aztecs were forced to live under Spanish rule. The Spanish imposed their own culture and religion on the Aztecs, and many of the Aztec traditions were lost.

Despite the destruction of Tenochtitlan and the Spanish conquest, the Aztec culture survived. Today, there are still many people in Mexico who identify as Aztecs, and the Aztec culture continues to be celebrated.
