Did the ancient Egyptians put flesh eating bugs in with dead?

Yes, ancient Egyptian embalmers placed flesh-eating beetles known as scarabs in the nostrils of deceased persons as part of their mummification process. However, these scarabs were not employed to consume flesh but had symbolic significance. Egyptians viewed scarabs as sacred and associated them with the sun god Ra. By placing scarab beetles in the nostrils of deceased individuals, they believed they were aiding the deceased in their soul's journey to the afterlife.
