Draco was an Athenian lawgiver who is credited with creating the first written code of laws in ancient Greece. His code was adopted in 621 BCE and was in effect for over 200 years. Draco's code was known for its harsh penalties, which included death for many offenses.
Some of the provisions of Draco's Code of Laws include:
* Death for murder, treason, and arson.
* Exile for theft, assault, and other crimes.
* Fines for lesser offenses.
* Draco's code also established the concept of "eye for an eye" justice, which meant that the punishment for a crime should be equal to the harm caused.
Draco's code was criticized for being too harsh, and it was eventually replaced by a more moderate code of laws created by Solon in 594 BCE.
