Botanical Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem , German in full Botanical Garden And Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem oldest botanical garden in Germany . Established in the 17th century as a royal garden for flowers, medicinal plants, vegetables and hops (for the royal brewery), it eventually fell into severe neglect. In 1801 the botanist Carl Ludwig Willdenow became director and began to restore the garden; A decade later he had created one of Europe's pre-eminent botanical research centers and public exhibitions. The Botanical Garden and Museum were used in the World War II almost destroyed and had to be rebuilt.
The Botanical Garden Berlin-Dahlem has special exhibitions, service greenhouses and several hectares of outdoor gardens with about 18,000 plant species. There is also a Botanical Museum with a large Herbarium of approximately 1,850,000 reference pieces and a museum library. The center publishes two journals, Willdenowia and Englera.
