Interesting video showing the battles that took place in the history of mankind one by one. Wars and battles fought over the last 4500 years shown in one movie.
Wars and battles over 4500 years
The creator of the Cottereau channel decided to create another film presenting the history of mankind on the map. This time, we will see battles over the last 4500 years in the film. Are these all battles? It's hard to judge. As the author of the film himself writes, information about the battles comes from data collected on Wikipedia.
“I created a Wikidata query to get a list of all articles marked as" battle "by Wikipedia. This gives me about 12,000 battles. [...] I cleaned up the data from Excel to remove duplicate entries and get 10,624 unique battles. "
It is also worth noting that the author of the film used a battle won counter assigned to a specific country. This way we can see which country won the most clashes. Of course, with their historical continuity.
"Each country can only have one predecessor state at a time (eg Great Britain's predecessor is England, but not Scotland)."
It is worth paying attention to the high position of Poland, which, according to the film, in its history (the Kingdom of Poland, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Duchy of Warsaw, Polish insurgents, contemporary Poland) won 344 battles. France came first (the Kingdom of the Franks, the Frankish Empire, West France, the Kingdom of France, the French Empire, the French Republic) - 1115 lose.
Battles in the history of the world
It is not the first project of this type. Previously, other creators on the web took up the challenge of embedding all battles on one map. Also based on Wikipedia data. I also wrote about the earlier project on my blog. If the topic interested you, I encourage you to read the previous project.
