Naravas was a Numidian prince, a fine strategist and a skilled horseman. An unconditional admirer of Hamilcar Barca, the mercenary war allowed him to realize his plans:to fight alongside his idol. His mobile and efficient troops enabled him to repel the mercenaries of Mathô, the Libyan leader, in the defile of La Scie where they were reduced to surrender.
