In times of war, anything goes… or so it seems. These are some of the projects in which animals were used for military purposes:
- Bomb Bats :Developed by the US in World War II to be used against Japan. The bat-pump project was conceived by dental surgeon Lytle S. Adams , who presented it to the White House in January 1942 and was approved directly by President Roosevelt. To carry out this project, «volunteers were recruited » in four Texas caves. The project consisted of equipping bats that would be released at night in Japanese industrial areas with small incendiary bombs. At dawn, the bats would seek shelter in the buildings and thanks to a timer… would break out causing fires… and chaos.
- Bomb Dogs :Developed by the Soviet Union during World War II to be used against German tanks. The dogs were kept without food for several days and trained to look for it under tanks and tracked vehicles. They were loaded with explosives and fitted with a detonator (usually a small wooden lever) that activated the charge by hitting the underside of the tanks. Due to the difficulty of locating them (they were small and fast), the German command ordered to shoot any dog and equipped the tanks with flamethrowers to protect themselves from the dogs.
In 1942, a group of dogs went crazy and caused the chaos in the Soviet ranks. Shortly thereafter the anti-tank dogs were withdrawn from service although their training continued until at least June 1996. - Bomb rats: developed by the British Army in World War II for use against Germany. The corpses of the rats were "stuffed" (as if they were turkeys) with plastic explosives, with the idea of camouflaging them in the coal batches and when they were thrown into the boilers they would explode causing significant damage. However, the first shipment of corpses was intercepted by the Germans, and the plan was abandoned. The Germans exhibited the rats in the Military Academies and a thorough search for more rat bombs was carried out.
After these savagery, who are the animals?
