Thanks to the initiative of individuals, private entities and are bringing back to life, in significant places due to their history and links with the Golden Age, soldiers, clergymen, merchants, ladies, mercenaries and even beggars, framed in monumental cities and environments of the time.
A very prominent example we could see a month ago in the historic ducal town of Lerma , an enclave that enjoys the status of an asset of cultural interest, as a historical complex. Organized by the City Council of Lerma and coordinated by the Cultural Association of Friends of the Burgos Historical Military Museum, from August 2 to 4, the event brought together re-enactors from all corners of Spain and even Europe, coinciding with the annual Baroque Festival of the Villa. In addition, a selection of companies and freelancers and related to the world of the historical recreation of the Tercios accompanied reenactors and visitors, completing an event that was enjoyed in 360 degrees.
Friday began with the baroque parade and the walk through the town. During the evening, the visitors were surprised with duels and street fights of the brawlers on duty, somewhat drunk and always quick to reach for the sword.
The main day included the recreation of kissing hands and presentation of ambassadors to His Majesty Felipe III in the Plaza Ducal. The monarch and his royal wife walked through the villa and were immortalized by recreationist photographers attending the event.
On Sunday, with a sun that raised temperatures a lot, the event had a main course:the recreation of a 17th century battle , in which the Tercios were deployed on the field under the north cornice of Lerma. From different points of view, the visitors attended the discharges of arquebuses and muskets and the formations of pikemen.
Events such as Lerma, held every two years, leave history lovers wanting more. Fortunately, in a few months we will have other very important events in more parts of Spain.
For example, the year 2020 will see, during the month of May, which will already be the III Edition of the International Recreation of the Spanish Tercios in Jaca, Huesca. In an incomparable historical enclave such as the citadel of the city, of undoubted military connection, the imperial armies will march again to the beat of their drums. An event that is already being organized, which will feature the best Spanish and international recreation groups, with the most outstanding recreation photographers in our country, and which will be sponsored by companies and institutions committed to our historical and cultural heritage.
Remember, on May 8, 9 and 10, the Tercios await you in Jaca.
