History of Europe

What lesson can you learn from the Berlin Wall?

Lesson: People's desire for freedom should not be underestimated.

Construction of the Berlin Wall symbolized the extreme lengths repressive governments will go to suppress human freedoms of movement and communication. However, the wall also showcased the powerful longing for liberty and autonomy by the people of East Berlin. Despite the intense surveillance, armed patrols, and risk of death or imprisonment, many people risked everything to escape to West Berlin. Their tenacity and willingness to brave danger emphasized that the human desire for freedom knows no bounds and cannot be easily suppressed.
