The Spanish fought the Moors during the Reconquista. The Moors were a Muslim people who invaded and conquered most of the Iberian Peninsula in the 8th century. The Reconquista was a series of wars waged by Christian kingdoms in the Iberian Peninsula against the Moors in an attempt to regain control of the peninsula. The Reconquista lasted for over 700 years and ended in 1492 with the capture of Granada, the last Muslim stronghold in Spain.
