History of Europe

Where did the Greek civilization develop?

The Greek civilization developed in the region known as Ancient Greece, which is the geographical area covering the Greek mainland, the Peloponnese, and numerous islands in the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea. The area is bounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the south and the Balkan Mountains to the north.

Ancient Greece is often considered the cradle of Western civilization and is the birthplace of democracy, philosophy, and many cultural achievements that continue to influence the modern world.
