Did Rome begin as a trading post?

While Rome initially was a settlement for trade along the Tiber River, it gradually transitioned from a mere trading town to the hub of a mighty Republic and later, a glorious Empire that expanded beyond just trade activities. Trade undoubtedly contributed to Rome's early development, but the city became renowned for politics, military conquests, infrastructure advancements, culture, art, law, and other endeavors that led to its enduring reputation in history.
