What did Spain lose as a result of the Spanish-American War?

As a result of the Spanish-American War, Spain lost the following territories:

- Cuba: Spain relinquished control of Cuba, which subsequently became a United States protectorate before gaining its independence in 1902.

- Puerto Rico: Spain ceded Puerto Rico to the United States as part of the peace agreement. Puerto Rico became a United States territory and remains a U.S. commonwealth to this day.

- Guam: The island of Guam in the Western Pacific was ceded to the United States. It became a U.S. territory and is currently an unincorporated territory of the United States.

- Philippines: Spain also relinquished control of the Philippines to the United States. The Philippines became a U.S. territory and gained its independence in 1946.
