History of Europe

What bombs did the Luftwaffe drop?

* High-explosive bombs (HE): These bombs were designed to cause maximum damage to buildings, infrastructure, and other targets. They typically contained a large amount of high explosive, such as TNT or RDX, and were often fitted with a delayed fuse to allow them to penetrate a target before detonating.

* Incendiary bombs: These bombs were designed to start fires and were filled with a flammable material such as thermite or phosphorus. They were often dropped in large clusters to create firestorms.

* Cluster bombs: These bombs contained multiple smaller bomblets that were dispersed over a wide area. The bomblets could be either HE or incendiary.

* Anti-personnel bombs: These bombs were designed to kill or injure enemy troops. They typically contained a large number of small metal fragments or shrapnel.

* Guided bombs: These bombs were equipped with a guidance system that allowed them to be directed to a specific target. They were typically used against high-value targets such as ships, bridges, and factories.
