History of Europe

How did the Allies push back Axis powers on four fronts?

1. North Africa:

The Allies launched Operation Torch in November 1942, landing troops in Morocco and Algeria. This put the Axis forces in North Africa in a vice, and they were forced to surrender in May 1943.

2. Italy:

The Allies invaded Italy in July 1943, after the fall of Mussolini. The Italian government surrendered, and the Allies were able to advance up the Italian peninsula, liberating Rome in June 1944.

3. Western Europe:

The Allies launched the D-Day invasion of Normandy in June 1944, landing over 1 million troops on the beaches of Normandy. The Allies were able to establish a beachhead and then push inland, liberating Paris in August 1944 and reaching the German border by the end of the year.

4. Eastern Front:

The Soviet Union launched a series of massive offensives against the German army on the Eastern Front in 1943 and 1944. The Red Army was able to push the Germans back to their own borders, and they eventually captured Berlin in May 1945.
