What did the first continental congresses do?

First Continental Congress (1775):

- Called in response to the Intolerable Acts.

- Organized the resistance against British policies.

- Created the Continental Association to coordinate economic sanctions.

- Sent a petition to the King to repeal the Intolerable Acts.

Second Continental Congress (1776):

- Declared independence from Britain and adopted the Declaration of Independence.

- Created a new government, the United States of America, with a president and a congress.

- Directed the war effort against Britain.

- Established diplomatic relations with other countries.
