Allan Pinkerton He was born in Glasgow (Scotland) in 1819. He later emigrated to the United States and settled in Chicago.
In 1852 he founded the Pinkerton Detective Agency (the first in the entire United States) by solving a series of train robberies.
In 1861 he was assigned the task of guarding Abraham Lincoln (he went on to foil a plot to assassinate the president).
But all this success did not help him to have a strange and painful death. He slipped on a sidewalk and bit his tongue (nothing strange for now), but his oral hygiene was conspicuous by its absence, since he died days later from a severe infection.
