The greatest generals in history are General Sherman and the General Grant .
But the trick, in this resounding statement, is that we are referring to the Sequoias or Redwoods (Sequoiadendron giganteum, Giant Sequoias ) Sherman and Grant.
- General Grant . Located in Grant Grove (within Kings Canyon National Park – USA), it was discovered in 1862 and is between 2,000 and 2,500 years old. It measures more than 81.72 meters and a diameter of 12.3 meters.
- General Sherman . Located in Giant Forest (Sequoia National Park in the United States), it was discovered in 1879 by naturalist James Wolverton. Wolverton had served as a lieutenant in the 9th Indiana Cavalry under Sherman and dedicated his discovery to him. It is about 83.8 meters tall, with a diameter of 11.1 meters (slenderer than Grant), about 500 years older than the other general and with the largest volume (1486.6 cubic meters).
