We all know that the vast majority had children, it is not necessary to be an expert to realize this fact because many were related to each other "staying everything in the family" on many occasions they are children or "nephews" (many of them children who do not " could” recognize). Families like Borgia, Médicis or della Rovere only in the Renaissance, give us a clear idea of it. Review of «The Popes and Sex ”, by Eric Frattini.
After reading this review I decided to pull the strings and search for Popes who have died for “sexual” reasons:
- Leo VII . 126th Pope of the Catholic Church from 936 to 939. He died of a heart attack while he was having sex.
- John VII . 86th Pope of the Catholic Church from 705 to 707. He was beaten to death by the husband of the woman he was sleeping with.
- John XIII . 133rd Pope of the Catholic Church from 965 to 972. Also assassinated by another cheated husband.
- Paul II . 211th Pope of the Catholic Church from 1464 to 1471. He allegedly died while being sodomized by a page.
As I have said other times, they are only snippets of history. I will never try to understand or interpret the historical facts and characters from the current point of view, and even less, to judge behavior based on modern values. If someone does it... it's their problem.
