From last February 9, and until next September, it can be visited at the Regional Archaeological Museum in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) the exhibition ‘Los Escipiones. Rome conquers Hispania ‘ , the first exhibition in Spain dedicated exclusively to Los Escipiones, the legendary saga of Roman politicians and soldiers who conquered Hispania.
Throughout six spaces – differentiated by theme and content – we can appreciate a collection of more than 200 pieces that have been donated by various public and private international institutions. The head of Scipio the African stands out. , brought from Italy.
The tour begins with an approach to this family of Roman politicians and soldiers to continue with explanations that will allow us to learn about the functioning of the Roman Army or the landing of the Roman troops in Ampurias in the year 218 BC and the taking of Numancia. We will also approach the figure of Scipio the African and his grandson, Scipio Emiliano , who destroyed Carthage. Finally, we will arrive at the room that will show us the complex ideological and political profile of the Scipios.
For this exhibition, Desperta Ferro has provided a map on the Battle of Baecula which originally belongs to the magazine Desperta Ferro Antigua y Medieval N.º17 :The Second Punic War in Iberia.
This same map was already present in the Fragor Hannibalis exhibition. Hannibal in Hispania , which was dedicated to narrating the history of the Carthaginian Hannibal in the Iberian Peninsula, and which could be seen in 2013 in the same museum, being that of Los Escipiones its continuation.
