History of South America

What was the most powerful group in latin American colonies?

The most powerful group in Latin American colonies was the peninsulares. These were people born in Spain who held the highest positions in the colonial government and military. They also controlled the economy and owned most of the land. The peninsulares were seen as superior to the creoles, who were people of Spanish descent born in the colonies. The creoles were often excluded from high-ranking positions and were not allowed to own land.
