History of South America

Why did the American colonist want to fight Revolution?

Taxation without representation: The American colonists were upset that they were being taxed by the British government without having a say in the matter. They believed that they should only be taxed by their own elected representatives.

Colonial restrictions: The American colonists were also frustrated by the restrictions that the British government placed on them. They wanted more autonomy and to be able to make their own decisions.

Desire for self-government: Many American colonists were inspired by the Enlightenment ideals of liberty, equality, and the right to self-government. They believed that they had the right to form their own government and to be free from British control.

French involvement: The French government provided military support to the American colonists, which helped them to win the Revolutionary War. The French were motivated by their own desire to weaken Britain and to gain more power in North America.
