A tailor named Jacob Davis invented riveted pants to hold up the pockets sewn on working people's pants. Strauss and Davis patented the design together on May 20, 1873.
Strauss was a successful dry goods merchant and Levi’s blue jeans started off as one product line among many Strauss was marketing during those days. Later it became so successful that the “Levi’s” blue jeans eventually eclipsed all the business of other products that the company began with.
