History of South America

The use of slavery in the Southern cotton industry helped to bring about what event?

The American Civil War

The American Civil War was fought from 1861 to 1865, and was largely caused by the issue of slavery. The Southern states, which were heavily reliant on the cotton industry, used slave labor to grow and harvest cotton. However, the Northern states were increasingly opposed to slavery, and the issue eventually led to war. The Union, or Northern states, won the war, and slavery was abolished in the United States in 1865.
