History of South America

What lead four other states to secede in April 1861?

South Carolina's secession in December 1860 was followed by the secession of six other Southern states in early 1861: Mississippi (January 9), Florida (January 10), Alabama (January 11), Georgia (January 19), Louisiana (January 26), and Texas (February 1).

In April of that year, Virginia (April 17), Arkansas (May 6), Tennessee (May 7), and North Carolina (May 20) also seceded.
