History of South America

What did southern states have to that northern not?

The southern states had a warmer climate than the northern states. This allowed them to grow crops such as cotton, tobacco, and sugar cane. These crops were very profitable, and they helped the southern states to develop a strong economy. The northern states, on the other hand, had a cooler climate. This made it more difficult for them to grow crops. As a result, the northern states had a less developed economy.
