History of South America

A freedman was a Southern who helped the carpetbaggers?

This is not accurate. Freedmen were formerly enslaved African Americans who were emancipated after the Civil War. Carpetbaggers were Northern Republicans who came to the South after the war to help with Reconstruction. While some freedmen may have supported the carpetbaggers, it is not accurate to say that all freedmen were Southern or that they all helped the carpetbaggers.
