How did the north and south react when Missouri wanted to became a state?

When Missouri wanted to become a state, the North and the South reacted very differently. The North was strongly against Missouri's admission to the Union, while the South was strongly in favor. This was because Missouri was a slave state, and its admission to the Union would have upset the balance of power between the North and the South. The North feared that Missouri's admission would lead to the spread of slavery to new territories, while the South feared that Missouri's exclusion from the Union would weaken their position in the country.

The controversy over Missouri's admission to the Union was one of the most divisive and consequential events in American history. It led to the Missouri Compromise of 1820, which temporarily resolved the issue of slavery in the territories. However, the Missouri Compromise ultimately failed to solve the problem of slavery, and it contributed to the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861.
