How did the natives treat vasco da gama?

The natives of India initially treated Vasco da Gama with awe and wonder. They had never encountered a European ship or Portuguese sailors before and were fascinated by their appearance, language, and goods. They welcomed da Gama and his men with gifts, provisions, and guides. However, as the Portuguese stayed longer and began to assert their dominance and authority, relations deteriorated. The natives increasingly resented the Portuguese as they realised their intentions to trade and establish colonies. Resistance and hostility grew, leading to conflicts and battles between the Portuguese and the natives.
