History of South America

Why can people who live in the country see more stars than near a city?

Light pollution. City lights create a lot of light pollution, which makes it difficult to see stars. This is because the light from the city lights scatters and reflects off of the particles in the atmosphere, creating a haze that blocks out the light from the stars.

Absence of tall buildings. Tall buildings in cities can also block out the view of the stars. This is because the buildings can be so tall that they cast a shadow over the stars, making them difficult to see.

Clearer air. The air in rural areas is often clearer than the air in cities. This is because there are fewer pollutants in the air, such as smoke and dust, which can scatter and reflect light, making it difficult to see stars.

Less moisture in the air. The air in rural areas is often less humid than the air in cities. This is because there are fewer sources of moisture in rural areas, such as rivers and lakes. Water vapor in the air can absorb light, making it difficult to see stars.
