Among the Incas there was an elite formed by officials, brave chiefs and even defeated chiefs who had been integrated into the empire. The children of this elite were educated in the schools of Cuzco where they learned history, astronomy, surveying, respect for a supreme god.
They also fought, ran, made weapons and sandals. The education was severe, comprising fasts and violent exercises that could even result in death.
At the end of this period, the boy was presented to the Inca, who pierced his ear, becoming a symbol of his social distinction.
