What country sponsored Christopher Columbus WHY?

Spain

Spain sponsored Christopher Columbus because they were looking for a new trade route to Asia. They believed that if they could find a route to Asia by sailing west, they would be able to avoid the Ottoman Turks, who controlled the traditional overland trade routes. Columbus was convinced that he could reach Asia by sailing west, and he managed to convince the Spanish monarchs, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, to support his expedition.
