The Empire of Japan was governed by Emperor Hirohito during World War II. Hirohito was the 124th Emperor of Japan, reigning from 1926 to 1989. He was the longest-reigning monarch in Japanese history.

During World War II, Hirohito was the head of state of Japan and the Supreme Commander of the Imperial Japanese Armed Forces. He was responsible for making all major decisions regarding the war, including the decision to attack Pearl Harbor.

After the war, Hirohito was allowed to remain on the throne as a symbol of Japan's sovereignty. He became a constitutional monarch, with limited powers. He died in 1989.
