What is a Scottish archipelago?

The Shetland Islands are a Scottish archipelago situated approximately 200 kilometres (120 miles) northeast of the Scottish mainland. The archipelago comprises around 100 islands, of which 15 are permanently inhabited. The largest island in the group is Mainland, also known as Shetland Mainland, which is home to the majority of the population. The Shetland Islands are rich in history, culture, and natural beauty, and are known for their unique landscapes, wildlife, and vibrant island communities.
