How many people came out of World War 1 alive?

World War I officially ended with the cessation of hostilities at 11:00 a.m. on November 11, 1918, when an armistice was signed between the Allies (primarily France, Britain, Russian and the United States) and Germany. The war left about 9 million soldiers dead worldwide and another 8 million permanently disabled or severely injured. The war's casualties included soldiers both from combat and from accidents/disease resulting in more deaths from the flu pandemic than by direct war-related means.
