Why does Wales have a different flag to England?

The Welsh flag differs from the English flag due to historical and cultural distinctions between the two regions. Wales, as a separate cultural and geographical entity, developed its own unique symbols and emblems over time.

The Welsh flag features a red dragon passant on a white and green background. The dragon has been associated with Wales since at least the 5th century and is featured in numerous historical texts, legends, and poetry. In contrast, the flag of England displays a red cross on a white background, known as the Cross of St. George. This cross originates from medieval times and is linked to the patron saint of England.

While Wales is part of the United Kingdom, it retains its own cultural identity, heritage, and traditions, which are reflected in its distinct flag. This difference exemplifies the diversity within the United Kingdom, where each constituent country possesses its own symbols and identities, contributing to the overall cultural richness of the nation.
