Where did Goat Hill get its name?

The neighborhood of Goat Hill in San Francisco received its name from the large amount of goats that once roamed the area in the 19th century. Early European settlers introduced goats to the area, and they soon became a common sight, grazing on the hillsides and providing a source of milk and meat for the growing city. The name "Goat Hill" has stuck with the neighborhood ever since, despite the fact that there are no longer any goats living there.
