What did the Great Leap Forward accomplish?

The Great Leap Forward was an economic campaign in the People's Republic of China, orchestrated by Mao Zedong from 1958 to 1961, which aimed to rapidly transform the country from an agrarian economy into a communist society through the formation of people's communes. However, the Great Leap Forward resulted in tens of millions of deaths due to famine and economic disruption, and did not achieve any of its stated goals.
